Racial Comments

December 27, 2011 naturelover dreadlocks

I had a couple African-Amercicans leave comments about my locks today!  I was told that my locks weren’t even locks.  They both said that if I would’ve read the history on dreadlocks, I would know that my natural locks aren’t what they’re suppose to look like.

Also, the one guy said that he didn’t want to be racial, but dreadlocks aren’t for Caucasians.  Apparently only black folks can wear them because they have the right hair texture, and white people don’t.   He insisted that my natural locks were nothing like locks and that it was just matted hair with knotted curls inside them.  The other guy also said that I should stop wasting my time making these videos because they’re not real.

Yes, these comments hurt.  But what they said doesn’t matter, because I know for a fact that they’re wrong.  I love my natural locks, and would NEVER get rid of them because of a couple blinded assholes that have no idea what they’re talking about!  Do they not understand that i’m in the middle of my journey and that they’re not yet completely formed?  I guess not! It makes me laugh at how these two men obviously don’t know the history of dreadlocks and how they obviously feel that dreadlocks are only meant for black people.

If they can’t accept that white people have/and are going to grow dreadlocks, then that’s not my problem.  Dreadlocks are meant for everyone, and anyone CAN wear them!

~ It doesn’t matter if your religion is Christianity, Buddhism, Hindism, Shamanism, ect.

~ It doesn’t matter if you’re Asian, African-American, Caucasian, Native-American, etc.

~ It doesn’t matter if you came from Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, Antarctica, etc.

Dreadlocks are universal, and its not a hairstyle.  It’s a lifestyle.  A lifestyle that is meant for every human soul who wishes to grow them!

We are all the same! It doesn't matter what we look like.

Locs are universal and one of the guys displayed his ignorance other than being racist by the statement he made about your Locs being matted and curly….hello that’s what Locs are intertwined matted hair. I would ask that you not hold this incident against a race of people by 2 bad apples because we all (black Americans) don’t all feel this way. ~ Peace and Love ~ Little Sistah ~

I’m so glad you agree with me! And no, of course not. I’m definitely not going to hold this incident against other Black Americans. I’ll be sure to add that to my post, just to make sure others understand that I didn’t mean it towards all Black Americans. I Love everyone! — Thank you so much for reading my post and commenting :) Much love to you sister!

Dreadlocks form naturally, no matter what kind of hair you have (I have very long, straight hair, not thick at all, but in time, it WILL start to form dreadlocks :P), it just happens, so I don’t get people like that. Just because dreadlocks form faster in African hair, doesn’t mean they’re the only ones that can have dreadlocks… :S

True that sister! Hopefully one day, everyone will realize that dreadlocks are meant for everyone, and anyone can enjoy the spiritual journey of it! Just love, patience, and time. :)
